About IIT Madras
IIT Madras is one among the foremost institutes of national importance in higher technological education, and basic and applied research. The campus is situated in lush green environment. The Institute has fifteen academic departments and a several advanced research centers in various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences, with nearly 100 laboratories, faculty of international repute, a brilliant student community and excellent technical and supporting staff. IIT Madras also has India’s first Research Park which facilitates promotion of research and development by the institute in partnership with industry; thus assisting in the growth of new ventures and promoting economic development.

About Petroleum Engineering Program: Started in the year, 2009, the mission of this program is to educate and train engineers for the design and practices of their profession in worldwide petroleum industry and to
impart skills to perform cutting edge research for the advancement of oil and gas exploration and recovery. The broad areas of research interest of faculties of Petroleum Engineering Program are in Analysis of seismic data and interpretation; Artificial lift methods; Drilling engineering; Drilling fluids; Enhanced oil recovery; Flow assurance technologies; Formation evaluation; Gas hydrate studies; Hazards identification and risk management; Petroleum geophysical studies; Reservoir modeling and simulation,
oil and gas production techniques.

About the International Workshop:The natural gas hydrate gained lot of interest to the scientific community because of their potential of being a significant energy commodity in the global energy market in near future. These hydrates are formed under the presence of high pressure and low temperature conditions in deep-sea sediments and permafrost regions where the presence of in-situ hydrates has been confirmed around the world. The difficulty in recovering gas from these gas
hydrates is that the fuel is in solid form and is not amenable to the conventional gas and oil recovery techniques. The workshop will address the state of art in gas hydrates and the current challenges of production. The speakers are invited from well known international research groups across the world. Workshop Structure The workshop will contain keynote lectures from international experts on the several topics related to gas hydrate exploration and production. They will share their experience in the field. In addition to this the participant will get an opportunity to interact with world renowned researchers in the field.

Panel Discussion
The panel discussion and brain storming session with experts and researchers on the possible hydrate issues, the path ahead and research problem with relevance to natural gas hydrates will be one of the highlight of the workshop.
Broad Topics of the Workshop on Gas Hydrates
Exploration technologies
• Seismic imaging techniques
• Gas hydrate saturation
• Geophysical properties
• Borehole pressure coring techniques
• Rock physics of gas hydrate reservoirs
Production technologies
• Production techniques and challenges
• Thermodynamics and kinetics
• Reservoir modeling
• Flow assurance
• Gas hydrates and CO2 sequestration
• Environmental impact
About International Speakers
International speakers will be from renowned research organization working in the field of gas hydrates with very good exposure. The speakers are affiliated to well know universities, such as, University of Texas, Austin; Texas A&M University, Colorado School of Mines, Schlumberger Doll Research Centre in Cambridge, USA, etc.

Eligibility:
The participants are expected to be at least graduate engineers or scientist/professionals with interest and exposure in oil and gas sector so that they can effectively participate in the workshop. The workshop will be conducted in English. The coordinators reserve
